Created in Vienna in 1925, Bewegungsstudie (Movement Study) is the celebrated photograph by Austrian photographer Rudolf Koppitz (1884–1936).

Three women dressed in flowing black garments surround a nude dancer whose body arches dramatically backwards. The arrangement transforms human figures into a carefully orchestrated composition of light, shadow, movement, and stillness.

The photograph reflects the artistic culture of interwar Vienna, combining the decorative elegance of Jugendstil with the expressive language of modern dance.

FROM PHOTOGRAPH TO KNIT

This knitted sweater reinterprets Koppitz's celebrated image through a deliberately limited palette of yarns.

Fine photographic detail gives way to simplified silhouettes, contrasting shapes, and textile texture. Rather than reproducing the photograph exactly, the design explores how an image changes when translated into another material.

The result is a wearable interpretation of an important work in the history of photography.

THE DESIGN
